Mapping of processes in ERP systems.
The last article in this series deals with the mapping of processes in a configurable ERP system. There are a few points to keep in mind.
First, there has to be a point at which the processes are no longer allowed to change. If I allow changes to be made during the implementation period, the whole thing will be a never-ending story. This is due to the continuous improvement which, as the name suggests, never stops. So there has to be a freeze of the processes and if there are still changes in an emergency, these have to be described in advance and then approved by the highest circles. One way to do this is through a change request procedure.
Also important for mapping processes in ERP systems: The required processes should be sent to the system provider beforehand in order to be able to provide an estimate for the project volume. Without this information, a volume estimate for the project is kind of pure coincidence.
After the project has started, the provider’s consultants can start mapping the most important processes. This means that basic settings are already in place and questions always arise as to how special processes should be integrated. This can then take place in workshops on site.
